Apple (illusionistic form) 7x5in

Sold
Above is an example of a different and more common approch to the same apple I painted yesterday. This apple appears to possess actual volume and depth defing the flatness of the painting surface. It was artists like Da Vinci that established these conventions that enabled artists to create the 'illusion' of three dimentional forms by lighting the subject and then noting the changes that occurred across the surface of the subject.

Alot of artists still work this way In keeping with traditional conventions. I like to work at the moment in a I suppose 'semi - illustionistic manner'. As you can see with this piece I had to put a degree of variety in the brush strokes.

Looking forward to trying a different style tomorrow.
